Eliana jumped out of the car, excited for her first funfair.
She raced through the hoards of people, drawn to the entry gates by the joyous screams and laughter.
With the long queue edging slowly towards the entrance, Eliana grew impatient. All she could do was watch the top of the big wheel turn as she waited, wondering what else was behind the tall fence.
Stepping inside, the field of fun wrapped around her like a great big hug. The heavily scented air of hot dogs, doughnuts and fairy floss, the booming music, and flickering lights promised the most amazing day.
Oh, the places she could go and things she could do. There were treats to eat and rides to conquer. There were games to play and prizes to win.
At the centre of the funfair was the most incredible ride of all. The grand old-time carousel stood proudly as the centrepiece of the fair.
Putting on a brave face, Eliana bought her ticket. She waited in line with all the other eager, but slightly nervous children.
Boarding the platform, she searched for her horse — picking an elegant white steed with a blue and red saddle.
Eliana mounted the horse and waited, clutching the reins tightly. The music began to build, and the carousel started to turn.
As the carousel picked up speed, the horses bobbed up and down, and Eliana’s imagination took over. She felt like she was a princess flying through an enchanted forest, the people in her kingdom waiving and looking on as she sped past them.
The fantasy continued until the music faded, the carousel slowed, and the ride came to an end.
Smiling ear to ear, it was time to continue exploring the fair.
The day quickly turned into night, and it was time to stop for dinner. Eliana tucked into a bucket of chips, followed by a hot cinnamon doughnut.
While devouring the treats, the still night sky above exploded with colour capturing the crowd’s attention.
Eliana felt like she was being showered by thousands of coloured diamonds, each glimmering in the soft glow of the moon before fading away.
As the finale rained colour overhead, Eliana let out an almighty yawn. It was time go.
As she waved goodbye to the funfair, the rides slowed, and the bright lights faded to darkness.
The end.
